锌的化学性质活泼，在常温下的空气中，表面生成一层薄而致密的碱式碳酸锌膜，可阻止进一步氧化，而铝在空气中，可形成不能溶解的氧化物层，在其中起屏障保护功能；试验在同等厚度、镀层、表面处理方式的热镀锌钢板与镀铝锌钢板的前提下。镀铝锌比热镀锌有优异的耐腐蚀性。因为55%AL-Zn的密度比Zn的密度小,所以在重量相同和镀金层厚度相同的情况下,镀铝锌钢板比镀锌钢板的面积大3%以上。镀铝锌由于力学性能的增加，内层基材表面镀层密度较好，含锰量相对高，因此镀铝锌在普通焊接条件下无法焊接，只能通过铆钉等其它方连接。在焊接方面热镀锌钢板表现较好。普通热镀锌产品通常使用温度不超过230度，250度是会变色，而镀铝锌板可在315度的环境下长期使用不变色。
